BEFORE YOU GET STARTED, YOU WILL NEED:

  • A PC or Mac. Although many devices allow you to view PDF files, they do not have the editing capabilities to properly edit and save PDF templates. Tablet-based laptops such as a Chromebook will not work either as many of them use application-based versions of software instead of the full versions that PCs and MACs use.
  • Adobe Reader DC. A free version can be found at get.adobe.com/reader. Please note that if you already have Adobe Reader software on your computer, that it must be up-to-date. Older versions of Reader may allow you to edit the text, but it will not allow you to save the file with your new information in place. It may also cause printing issues where the colors don’t print correctly. (Reader X and XI won't work)
  • All fonts used in our templates are either standard fonts on most systems or they are embedded into the file. Please contact us via Etsy conversation if the font does not look correct on your screen.

EDITING & SAVING YOUR PDF TEMPLATE:

See our Frequently Asked Questions page if you run into issues with any of the below steps. See our Evite Creation page for instructions on how to save your file as a single JPG file to be used as an evite that can be sent via text, email, or on social media. You will need to follow steps 1-4 below first.

1. Choosing a template.

If your download came with a bonus backside, you will need to decide on if you plan to print it or not before choosing a template. Listings that come with a bonus backside come with two templates-- a 1-page template and a 2-page template. If you do not plan to print the backside, proceed with the 1-page template. If you plan to print the backside, proceed with the 2-page template.

2. Editing your template.

Open the PDF file in Adobe Reader DC (Preview on a Mac will not work and neither will older versions of Adobe Reader like X or XI). Keep these instructions open for reference. Select the text you wish to change by clicking inside the text box (do not click on the "Edit" button) and re-type your information. You will only need to do this in one of the invitations as Reader will duplicate it automatically in the other invitation. Please see #1 or #5 on my FAQ page if you encounter any issues with this step. See a screen shot of what an editable PDF template should look like when opened in Adobe Reader DC (PC & MAC views).

3. Changing the font or text size.

If you prefer a different font, text color, and/or text size, highlight or click into the text box you wish to change and select CTRL+E (PC) or COMMAND+E (MAC). An editor box will appear. This may take a moment to appear. Do not click on the "Edit" button. This function will only work in Adobe Reader DC. If your template uses a different font/color for the first and last names and you need to add a second name that looks the same as the first,  see #16 on our FAQ page.

4. Saving your template.

After you have finished editing your file, go to "File">"Save As" and save the PDF as a new file. If this step is missed, your details will not be saved and the file will return to its original state. If your file was included in a ZIP folder for download, you may need to save the file in a new folder outside of the original ZIP folder. Please see #1 or #5 on our FAQ page if you encounter any issues with this step.

5. Printing your file.

See our Printing Tips for helpful suggestions on how to print at home or a print shop in order to achieve the best end-product. See our FAQ page for a list of suggested places to have the files printed as well as places that will not accept these files. Print as many times as you need. Most files include trim lines and/or crop marks for cutting down to size. Most invitations fit in envelope size A-7 or larger. However, there are some exceptions to this and the item's description should be read on Etsy for envelope suggestions.
